The best after-work bars for every mood

D5py

Picking an after-work bar can feel like asking your partner what to eat: ‘don’t know’ or ‘anything’ are probably the most common answers, and you end up defaulting to your usual haunts. We’ve got some cool new bars for you to check out – there’s one for every after-work mood you might have.

  1. When you feel… like escaping the crowd downtown

Kamikaze2

Kamikaze

Hidden away in a secret enclave in Khatib, of all places, Kamikaze Tapas Bar is a great gem located in the heartlands. Better yet, it’s situated right in the middle of the scenic ORTO park, which boasts lots of lush greenery and a serene, sprawling lake. You’ll have to do a little navigating from Khatib MRT, but it’s just a short walk away. As its name implies, Kamikaze specialises in Asian brews, and has an impressive selection of popular beers from around the region.

Though heartland bars tend to pick up a reputation for being rather dodgy, the vibe at Kamikaze is more akin to a resort bar – coupled with its great setting by the lake, you’ll feel like you’re on vacation. There’s live music on the weekends as well, making this the perfect spot to pick up a casual drink far away from the CBD crowd. The skewers here go for just a dollar a stick, and are sinfully delicious, so pick up a few to go along with your drinks – you’ll thank us later.

  1. When you feel… like chilling by the water

Prive ACM

You don’t have to wade through the bedlam of Clarke Quay just to get a drink by the waterfront. Restaurant-slash-bar Privé has a lesser-known outpost at the Asian Civilisation Museum that directly overlooks the Singapore River, giving you a gorgeous view to go with your drink. The restaurant has a great Happy Hour promotion, too: from 5 – 9pm every day, selected house pours go for half off. Be sure to try out Privé’s signature Moonshine Sangria, a zesty combination of vodka, peach pureé and sauvignon blanc. Another plus of the bar’s location is that you’ll also avoid the noisier crowds that tend to gather at the party district nearby so you can enjoy your drink in relative peace.

  1. When you feel… like being on top of the world

The bar has a great view overlooking city and seaAn aerial view of Mr Stork with its private teepees

Think of sky bars in Singapore and you might think there is only a handful of them – but at the newly opened Andaz Singapore in the hip Bugis district, there’s a secret sky bar located on the 39th floor. Mr Stork is a romantic hideaway for all you lovebirds wanting to escape the bustle on the ground, with private teepees to chill out in and lots of lush greenery and plants to balance out all the modern chrome-and-steel touches in the spacious rooftop bar. Its drink menu is redolent with lots of tropical touches so you can expect to find lots of refreshing coolers and mixers. Mr Stork is a great new place to sit back with a drink and soak in the spectacular views of downtown Singapore – or to just lean back and take in the starry, unblocked sky.
